Living with Art – Painting on Wood

This week we painted on wood and I wanted to do something that would be fun for the kids to paint.  I bought these fish from St Lawrence River Decoys.  The fish are sanded and ready to paint.  They also come with the glass eyes. My husband drilled a hole in the bottom of the fish and added the dowel and base.

At the beginning of class we talked about different ways we could paint them and some details that we could add around the eyes.  Since the kids had a few classes they were really thinking about different ways that they could paint them.  I think they did a great job, what do you think?

This young lady painted her fish a little different on each side.  When she started she had orange and pink on one side and one of the kids said it was a Duncan Donut fish ….so she painted a donut around the eye.  Very fun!

and a rainbow.  Sometimes it is hard to take a picture with all the fun distractions.

My other class is a family and they decided to use red, white and blue so that their fish would coordinate and they could be out all summer from Memorial Day to 4th of July to Labor Day.

Daniel wanted to have teeth on his fish, so we used Quikwood and Super Glue to add them.

And Sara went for neon scales on her fish.  I love how her fish coordinates with her shirt.

It was a really fun project.  We used DecoArt Americana acrylic paints on the projects.

Just think of all the fun possibilities you could create with these fish.

Happy Creating,

Jane

PS.  You can also see the fun the kids are having creating together and the relationships that are forming through art.  That blesses me as much as seeing their artistic skills grow.
