Festive Fall Pedestal – DIY – Jane Allen Creates

I love to display things on pedestals. When I was at Micheal’s (You can see by now that I go there too often) I found the little wooden pedestal and thought it would work with a cake pan on top. You could use any type pan. I wanted something with straight sides so it would be a little easier to cover with scrapbook paper. The pan I used is the 8″ tray available from Della and Company

I decided to cover the pan with a brown Kraft paper with metallic designs on it, so I decided to paint the pedestal and tray with a dark color chalk paint. I painted it with a mix of DecoArt Relic and Carbon chalk paint. I painted with the one color then dipped my brush in the next color and blended on the piece. Not sure if that was lazy or innovative.

I then wiped DecoArt Metallic Lustre Gold Rush on the to and bottom rim and base. When dry I spray varnished and glued pedestal to tray.

I cut my pieces of paper to fit the inside and edges and glued them into place.

For fun I thought I would add a button banner and a triangle word banner. To create the button banner I ran twine around the edges of my tray three times to determine the length of twine needed. I then rubbed white glue on both ends of the twine to make it stiff. When dry I began weaving the buttons on from each end. I found these six sided button at Joanne’s and thought they would be fun. When I got to the desired length (about two times around the tray) I glued them to the top rim in six equally spaced spots using a multipurpose glue.

I also wanted to add some little triangular word banner. I made my triangles 1 3/4″ long by 1 1/2″ wide. I made a pattern and then traced them onto different colors of scrapbook paper. Before painting I folded the top edge down a little less than 1/4″ and cut off corners. I then stenciled my letters on each triangle.

I painter over the letters with Gold paint. When dry I glued the triangle to twine and then glue to top rim of tray.

I glued some extra triangles to toothpicks. Now you can use your pedestal for goodies, to display a larger item or a vignette of a few favorite things. for the brownie recipe go to the blog post Here.

My friend who is a beach girl said she would put a large candle in it and place seashells around the candle. Again make it personal, use colors that suit your decor. I think the banners make the piece fun.
