Cat Teeth:
Mix 1/8” of QW. You can trace the outline of the teeth onto your project or just freehand it like I did by roiling your clay into a 2” coil. Position on face, I had the mouth go slightly below the center. Lay coil on cat with the ends turned up. Press with palm of hand to flatten, the center should be about ½” wide. Using exacto knife cut through center of mouth (horizontal cut), then cut in center. Divide each side of mouth into three sections by making two more cuts. Allow to cure. (video)
Cat Ears:
Mix ¼” of QW and divide into 2. Roll one piece into a ball then shape into a triangle with your finger. Repeat with the second ball. Position of top of head, and press into place. Reshape point of ears. Blend back of ear onto Styrofoam. (video)
Cat finishing:
Mix I/8” of QW and pinch and press over Styrofoam around the mouth and on the face up to and between the ears.
Mix about 3/16” of QW and divide into two. Take one of the pieces and divide into two to make the lips. Roll into a coil about 3” long and lay next to bottom teeth, gently pat into place. Roll remaining clay into 3” coil and lie next to top of teeth and gently pat into place. Blend ends of coils together using extender if needed.
Divide remaining piece into three. For the nose roll one piece into a ball and then begin flattening and shaping into a triangle. Lay above mouth with the point down. Roll remaining pieces into balls and lay on eyes above and on each side of nose. , gently pat and flatten. Allow to cure.
Make a hook by folding over a piece of wire. Cut off and push into head between ears. Mix additional QW if needed to cover the rest of the head. (video)
Owl – Eyes:
Mix ¼” of QW Pull off a small piece of QW and pinch and flatten, they lay and press onto Styrofoam. We want to cover the area behind the eyes and nose. Place on very thin.
To make the eyes mix 3/8” of QW and divide into two. Lay a piece of parchment paper over pattern for eye. Roll into a ball and lay on center of pattern. Flatten and fill the shape of the pattern. Using knife tool pull in from the outside edge of the eye and pulling in about ¼”. Repeat eight times around the eye. Repeat for the other eye. Using either finger or tool with ball on end press into center of the eye. Lift each eye and position beside each other at the top of the clay. Allow to cure. (video)
Owl – Adding features:
Mix ¼” of QW and pull off two ¼” balls. Roll into ball and place into center of each eye. Gently pat into place. For the beak pull off a ball about 3/8” Roll into a cone about ¾” long and position between eyes. For the brows pull off two balls about ½” and roll each into a cone about 1 ¼” long. If needed before placing on brows put thin clay behind brows with some of the extra clay. Place cone in center of eyes, follow along top of eye with the point at the end coming up. Repeat for other brow. Fold over piece of wire to make hook and insert into head between brows. If needed mix more clay to cover the rest of the body. (video)
Owl – Wings:
Mix ¼” of QW and divide into two. Roll each piece into a 1 ½” cone. Position on body on each side below eyes. Gently flatten and pick up tip of wings. Allow to cure. (video)
Pumpkin Starting:
Use a marker to make the sections of your pumpkin. Draw a line around the center of the ball dividing it in half, then divide each of those areas in half. Divide remaining quarters in half. Using knife like tool press in on all lines about 1/8”. Press cinnamon stick into top and press down so that ½” of the stick is showing. Remove cinnamon stick.
Mix 5/8”-3/4″ of QW and divide into 4. Roll one piece into a coil with pointy ends about 2” long. Lay on center of one section and press and fill in entire section. Repeat for next section. Use tool to reline sides of section. Continue in the same way with the two remaining pieces of clay. Mix another 5/8”-3/4″ of QW and continue filling in sections and relining sides of sections. When done reline sections and pick the best side for the face. Reinsert cinnamon stick. Fold over small piece of wire for hook and press behind cinnamon stick. You could also wait and see how ornament hangs and at end insert hook into top of cinnamon stick and glue in place with super glue gel. (video)
