5 Guys

Slim:

Note: the shorter spiral is the top of the ornament.

Draw line down center of ornament for center of face.  Then place a 5/8” mark from the center line out on each side.  This will be the widest part of the face.  Draw an ark on each side to outline the face.

Mix ½” of QW and pull off two 3/8” balls for the mustache.  Roll each into a 1 ¼” cone.  Lay a piece of parchment paper over the pattern and shape the mustache following the pattern.  Allow to cure.

Roll what is left into a 3” cone.  Gently flatten on parchment paper, then lift and begin pressing down in top center (fat part of cone) and pulling up on each side to form sideburns.  Lay on bottom ridge and pull sideburns up on each side.  Blend sideburns to wood.  Lift up on beard and then attach to ornament.  Lift out again and then curl bottom of the beard up and attach to the bottom of the ornament.    Allow to cure.

Using Super Glue Gel, glue mustache above beard.

For the nose mix a sliver of QW and pull off a ¼” ball.  Roll into a long skinny ¾” + cone.  Lay on center front of face above the mustache.  Pinch on nose so that it stands out at the bottom.  Using blade lift up on bottom of nose to square it off.  For the eyebrows, pull off two 1/8” balls.  Roll each into a 3/8” cone.  Lay each on an upward angle on each side just above the nose.

With the remaining ¼” ball place it on the top of the ornament and then fold over a piece of wire for a hook and insert into the top of the ball of QW.  Allow to cure.

For the holly on the hat mix a sliver of QW and pull off a ball smaller than and 1/8” for a leaf.  Roll into a small cone and flatten. Position on hat. Pull off two more small balls for leaves and make the same way and position on hat.  Pull off three small balls for berries and place between leaves.  Allow to cure.

Swirly:

Note the Smaller point is the top of the ornament and the larger point is the bottom of the ornament.

Draw an outline for the face by making a curved line on two sides with the curve going out and about 1 ¼” across at the widest point.  Mix ½” of QW and let sit 5 to 10 minutes.  Roll clay into a 4” long cone with the tail being skinny.  Lay on parchment paper and gently flatten the top of the cone. Since we are going to lay the beard on the face on an angle we want the side burns to be longer on the left side.   Lift and press down in to the right of the center and pull up on each side to make the side burns. Lay on the face with the beard going to the right.  Blend the sideburns to the ornament.  If you are using the new clay wait about 15 minutes before positioning the beard.

Lift the beard and attach it to the side of the face leaving about 1 ½” tail.  You will now want the tail to come back down and then cure up.  You will have to keep hold the beard or shim it with something until it cures.  Allow to cure

For the mustache Mix 1/8” of QW and pull off two ¼” balls.  Roll each into a 1” cone. Lay fat part of the each cone above beard in center of face.  Gently press in center and lift points. For the nose pull off 3/8” ball of clay and roll into a long cone about 1” to 1 ¼”.  Lay above mustache in center of face.  Pinch bottom sides of nose so that they stick out farther.  If bottom of nose is round either cut off with blade or push up on it to square it off.  Pull off two smaller balls for eyebrows.  They should be a little less then ¼” Roll each into ½” long cone.  Place next to brim on an angle with the center of the eyebrow being fatter and going up.  On the very top of the hat put a 3/8” ball of clay.  Fold over a piece of wire and insert into the clay for a hook.  Put the hook a little closer to the front of the ball to balance out the weight of the ornament.  Allow to cure.

For the leaves and berries on the hat mix a sliver of QW.  Pull off two small balls a little less than ¼” for the leaves.  Roll each ball into a small cone and then flatten.  Place leaves on hat and then pull off three smaller balls for berries (a little less than 1/8”) and attach to hat in front of leaves.  Allow to cure.

Curly:

Note the round part is the top of the ornament and the flat part is the bottom.

To start the beard lay a piece of parchment paper over the beard pattern.  Mix ½” of QW and divide the clay into 9 balls about 3/8” each.  Start at the bottom middle and lay the balls on the bottom layer of the pattern.  Gently press them down so that they are all touching.  Using some extender begin blending the edges together and up making sure to keep the rounded bottom and a little separation at the sides.  For the next row mix 3/4” of QW and divide into 12 balls – 7 for the next row and 5 for the top row.  So divide the clay in 4 and then divide each piece in 3.  Make sure pattern is aligned and place the 7 balls in the next row.  Press down on the balls and then blend together and up with extender.  Align the next row and press and blend together. If you have covered the mouth use a little tool to push back.  If using new clay let sit about 30 minutes or more before attaching to the face.

While waiting, mix a sliver of QW and divide into three ¼” or a little bigger balls.  Make sure you have two small size balls for the mustache.  Roll each into a 1” cone with a pointy end. Place on parchment paper over pattern following the shape of the pattern.  Gently flatten and have the pointed ends turn up.  For the eyebrows divide the other piece of clay in two and roll each piece into a 3/8” cone.  Lay on parchment paper over pattern and shape following pattern.  Using pointy tool make two indents in each eyebrow and mustache, the come back and push from the right and the left of each indent to round the indents.  Allow to cure.

Position beard onto face, and press into place.  Attach mustache to face with the fat parts at the center attached and the tips standing out.  If needed use some super glue gel.  If needed, place ornament on cup on lid so that it can cure with the beard hanging down.  Allow to cure.

Mix ½” of QW and pull off a 3/8” ball for the nose.  Place above the center of the mustache.  From the top center measure out ½” all the way around to make a line for the placement of the hat band.  Roll remaining clay into a 6” coil.  Loosely lay on line.  When you are satisfied with the placement gently flatten in place.  Blend back edge together.  Using tip of pointy tool place indents on band to resemble fur.  Attach eyebrows to front bottom edge of fur.  They should be angled up.  Mix 1/8” of QW and roll into a ball and place on top of hat.  Indent with pointy tool like on band.  Bend over piece of wire and insert into top for hook.  Allow to cure.

Mix sliver of QW and pull off ½” ball and place on bottom.  Allow to sit and cure.

Chunky:

Note the Tiered is the top of the ornament.

For the beard mix ¼” of QW and roll into a 1” cone.  Gently flatten on a piece of parchment paper.  Press down in the center and up at the sides for the sideburns.  Lay on bottom edge of ornament and press into place.  The width of the face is about 1 ½” at the width.  Pull sideburns up and blend onto ornament.  Allow to cure.

For the Mustache  and nose mix 1/8” of QW and divide into two.  For the mustache roll into a ball and then roll each end into a cone. You will have a wide flat triangle.  Gently flatten and then lay in place on top of beard.  Roll/pinch the tips of the mustache to a point and have them stand out from the beard.  From the other piece of clay pull off a ¼” ball for the eyebrows.  With the rest make the nose by rolling the clay into a ¾” cone.  Then shape into a fat triangle by pinching sides and flattening the bottom of the nose.  Position on face.  Divide ¼” ball in two for the eyebrows, roll each into ½” cone.  Position eyebrows on edge of cap, with them turning up.  Allow to cure.

To finish top of cap, mix 1/16” of QW and roll into a ball.  Place on top of head.  Fold over piece of wire to make hook.  Insert hook into top front of the ball.  Allow to cure.

Rolly:

Note: Equal turns are on the bottom.

To make the beard a little longer, draw a line 5/16” up from the top ring. For the bottom of the hat draw a line 5/8” down from last turn.

Mix 1/8” of QW and pull off two ¼+” balls for the mustache.  Roll each ball into a 1” cone.  Lay on an angle with the fat ends together right above the line for the beard.  Gently press in center. For the nose pull off a ¼” ball and roll into a long 1” cone.  Lay above mustache in center of face.  Pinch together at the tip and use blade to push up on bottom of nose or trim so that it is flat.  Pull off two 3/16” balls for eyebrows.  Roll into a ½” cone and place on an angle above the eye.  Place a ½” ball on top and press into place.  Fold over wire for hook and insert into top front of ball.  Allow to cure
