Quikwood Basics:
- Quikwood is a two part resin. When mixed together you have about 20 minutes of open time before it begins to cure. It will fully cure in 24 hours.
- Only cut off as much as you need at a time.
- Make sure it is thoroughly mixed together (no swirls of color) or it will not cure.
- Do not wear jewelry especially rings when working with QW.
- Apply Avon Silicone Glove before starting and as needed when working with the QW.
- Use DecoArt Extender to blend QW being careful not to use too much or it will make your QW gummy.
- Before painting wipe surface with baby wipe to remove any oils.

Sculpting Instructions:
Head:
Cut ½” QW and roll into ball. Place parchment paper over pattern. Lay clay in center of pattern and begin pressing and patting with palm of hand until clay fills the pattern. Apply more pressure on outside edges since you are creating a dome shape. Allow to cure.
Legs:
For the top of the legs mix ½” of QW and divide into 2. Lay parchment paper over pattern with wood shape on top. Roll clay into two balls then into two short cones and place over pattern. Begin pressing and patting until clay fills shape of pattern, keeping clay thinner at the bottom. Blend top onto wood. Using a pointy tool or pencil place a hole in bottom of each leg.
To make the bottom half of the legs mix ½” of QW and divide into 2. Roll each into a coil about 3” long with a pointy toe. Slightly flatten top of leg and use tool and put hole in top of each leg. Allow to cure.
Bottom of dress:
Mix ¾” of QW and roll into a coil 4 ½” – 5” long. Lay on parchment paper and begin flattening with palm. Press down on back edge of coil to make a bevel, making sure to keep the edge straight. Use blade to straighten if needed. The coil should now be about ¾” wide. Square off edges and allow to sit 5 minutes.
Lift clay off of parchment paper and lay beveled edge about ½” from bottom. Gently pat top into place. Pick up edges of skirt and begin pinching and pulling to create ruffle. If desired pinch edges to make them thinner. Allow to sit 2 more minutes and then make final adjustments. Keep an eye on the edges until the clay is cured.
Mix 1/8” of QW and let sit 5 minutes. Roll into a coil 5” long. Lay on top of ruffle and pat into place. Using exactor knife place an indent every 1/8”. Allow to cure.
Nose & Hair:
Mix sliver of QW and allow to sit 5 minutes, this will make it easier to sculpt facial features and hair. Pull off ¼” ball of clay and roll into a cone for nose. It should cover about ¾ of the face. Use blade to flatten bottom of nose. Allow to cure.
To make hair mix 1/4″ QW and pull off ¼” ball of clay and roll into a coil, then wind into a curl from the end. Lay on top side of face. Make another one for opposite side and then repeat for bottom curls. Laying bottom curls under top curls. Pull smaller piece for top of hair and make into a curl with a tail and lay across forehead with the curl down. Pull of 1/4″ ball and roll into oval shape for bun, place on top of head.
Pull off small balls of clay place randomly in hair. Using tool or pencil press point into each ball to create curl. Allow to cure.
Align head and attach head using Super Glue Gel.
Mix sliver of QW and divide into two. Roll each piece into a cone about ¾” long. Place fat ends at center front and wrap around neck. Slightly flatten. Allow to cure.
Flowers:
6 Petal Blue flower – Mix ¼” of QW and divide into three making each piece a different size. Roll each piece into a ball and lay on parchment paper. Slightly flatten with hand and then press finger in center. Using tool that looks like the blade of a knife begin cutting and pulling from outside edge to center to create petals. Repeat until all the petals are formed. Press finger in center if needed. Repeat for other two flowers.
Mix ¼” of QW and pull off 1/16” ball for head of the bee. Pull off two more small balls and roll into a cone about 3/8” to ½” and flatten to form bee wings. Pull off another ball about ½” and roll into a coil about 3” long and begin wrapping starting with a ½” circle at bottom. Continue wrapping clay with each loop getting smaller. This should now look like a small bee hive. This will be the center for another flower. Pull off small balls and place in center of each blue flower for a center. Slightly flatten. With remaining clay pull off ball about ½” and roll into ball and slightly flatten then push finger into the center. Roll remaining clay into a ball and slightly flatten. Let piece cure.
Mix ¼” of QW and pull off ¼” + ball and roll into a cone. Have it curl up a little to make the body of the bee. Attach the head to the front of the cone. Place the wings into the body of the bee. Reshape if needed. Insert wire into bottom of bee, remove and allow to cure. Tip: if wings are a little big, you can cut them with your scissors before they completely cure. To make the flower with the bee hive center pull off 5 balls all about ¼”. Lay them in a circle and press each petal and flatten with finger. Add bee hive to center. As petals cure lift them up a little. Take remaining clay and divide into two with each piece being a different size to make the two small white flowers. Gently flatten with hand and then press finger in center of each flower. Allow to cure.
Mix 1/8” of QW. To make the second turquoise flower. Pull off a small ball of clay slightly smaller than the other flower. Then pull off two small balls and place on top of each flower. Pull off a ball for center of each white flower, position and slightly flatten. For the two smallest dark purple flowers pull off two small balls, one slightly larger than the other. Insert tip of tool in center of each. Allow to cure.
To finish flowers mix up 1/2” of QW pull off 3/8” ball and place on back of one of the largest flowers. Begin pinching and make a cone shape. Insert piece of 20 gauge wire 3”-4” long into back of mound of clay. Continue doing on all of the flowers using a ball of clay in proportion to the size of the flower. Allow to cure, if the wire slips out glue in with Super Glue Gel when cured.
Adding Cone & Arms:
Align head and attach head using Super Glue Gel.
Flatten cone in half and cut. Measure so cone is 3” high and cut off top inch.
Mix ½” of QW and divide into two coils each 4” long. Let lay for 5 minutes. Mix ¼” of QW and divide into two. Roll each into a coil about 2 ½” long and lay on inside edge of each side of cone.
Position arms on body. They should start at the shoulder and bend at the elbows. Lay cone in place. Both hands will wrap around the cone with one on top of the other. Place them towards the bottom of the cone so that you will have room for the bow. Allow to cure.
Finishing cone and dress:
Mix ¼” of QW and let sit 5 minutes. Divide into 4 and roll each into a long coil about 3”. Lay on parchment paper and slightly flatten. Lay first coil across top of basket on an angle. Trim ends with exacto knife. Place second piece on top crossing first piece, trim ends. Press into place. Cut next coil in half on an angle. Place end on center where ribbons cross. Have tail wave up and down , repeat with second tail. Cut last coil in half. Pick up one piece and fold ends together to form loop, and lay on top center. Repeat for second piece. Keep watching and opening loops. Make small coil to cover loop with excess. Lay over center and trim. For buttons pull off three small balls and position and press in place. Use tool to place two holes in each. To make rose use remaining clay roll a coil about 1” long. Press and flatten. Pick up and begin rolling from one end keeping center tight. Pleat bottom and wrap to create flower. Attach in center of collar.
Finishing:
To finish project mix up 1/8” of QW and pull off small ball for cuff and roll into a coil about 1/8” wide. Start on top of arm and wrap over wrist, cut excess off of bottom with exacto knife. Repeat for other arm. Place indents in cuff the same way as you did the bottom of the dress.
To make halo wrap wire around top of paint bottle and then pull a little smaller. Twist ends together, fold ends down and shape halo into oval. Trim off any excess wire. Using remaining QW and pull off 1/3. Position halo and lay piece of clay over ends of halo to secure in place. Use another piece of clay and lay on back of head next to shoulders to help secure head.
Use remaining clay left to attach a hook to the back of the head. Cut a small piece of wire and fold over, use clay to attach to the back of the head.
Mix sliver of QW and roll in a ball. Place on center of wings and attach to body. (video)
Angel Pin:
Mix ¼” QW and cut 1/8” dowel 2 ¼’ long. Place parchment paper over pattern and place dowel in center of pattern. Roll clay into ball and place over pattern. Press and pat and fill in space keeping the edges thinner than the center. Allow to cure.
Mix 1/8” of QW and dive into 3 with a small, medium and large ball. From largest piece pull off a small piece for the center of the flower and lay aside. Roll into a ball and gently flatten. Press finger into center. Using tool that looks like the blade of a knife begin cutting and pulling from outside edge to center to create petals. Lay small ball in center. For the medium flower pull off a small ball for center. Roll into a ball and gently flatten, press finger into center. Add small ball to center. Pull small ball off of smallest piece. Roll into a ball and slightly flatten, then add center to top.
Mix ½” of QW and pull off ¼” ball for nose. Roll into a cone about ¾ “ long and lay on center of face with the center slightly below the center. Trim off the bottom of the nose with your blade. Let Cure.
Use remaining clay and divide into 4. Using sculpty mold to make wings. Begin by spraying the mold lightly with cooking oil. Roll clay into a cone and press into mold and remove. Repeat for other three wings. I used the large petal. Position the tip of the four petals to create X. Lay dowel of angel in center.
Mix ¼” of QW and pull off small ball about ¼” and lay in center of body over dowel. Pull off three ¼” balls and roll into cones and press into leaf mold. Position leaves on center of body and lay flowers into place. For the smaller flowers you will need a small ball of clay to attach them. Roll remaining clay into a 3/8” ball. Use a tool and insert hole in ball and add a drop of Super Glue Gel and attach to bottom of dowel. Reshape if needed. Allow to cure.
To do the hair mix up 1/8” of QW and pull off a ¼” ball and roll into a coil about 1 ½” long. Roll end into a coil and attach to the right side of the head. Pull off a little smaller ball and roll into a coil about 1 ¼” long. Roll into a curl and lay on bottom left side of face. Roll a second ball into a coil and roll into a curl and then lay on top side of head. Pull off another piece and roll into a coil about 1” long. Have a curl at end and place on right side of top of head and have tail go to the left.
To finish the angel make a halo out of wire and trim ends. Mix sliver of clay and attach halo to back of head. If this is an ornament you can attach a hook.
